Apartments in Irving

Jefferson LasCo is ready to welcome you and your pets home to a life of luxury. Residents of our pet-friendly apartments in Irving will appreciate these tips on how to keep your dog happy and heathy during the summertime.

#1 Don’t leave an animal inside of your vehicle.

Never leave your dog in your car during these sweltering summer months. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it just takes a matter of minutes for a pet to experience heat stroke or suffocation. Remember: It’s always warmer inside a vehicle than it is outside. Even at a mild 78 degrees, temperatures inside of a car can reach 90 degrees or more depending if it’s shaded.

#2 Protect your dog from parasites.

Bugs are especially active during the summer months. This includes parasites like ticks and fleas, which can cause heartworms, Lyme disease, and many other diseases. Consult your veterinarian and find a preventive medication to give your pup.

#3 Practice water safety.

Not only do you need to make sure your dog is adequately hydrated when exposed to the heat, there are other rules of water safety for your pup to keep in mind. If you bring your dog near the pool or to the beach, keep an eye on it. Even if Fido is a good swimmer, there are several obstacles that could end up hurting your dog.  Invest in a doggie life preserver for the safety of your dog.

#4 Keep walks short. Look into sunscreen.

Asphalt rapidly heats up in the summertime. Since your dog is so much closer to ground level, this heat will quickly effect the health of your dog. Not to mention, sensitive paw pads can burn. Avoid this by taking shorter walks early in the morning. Also, pets with short fine hair and pink skin are susceptible to sun burns. Talk to your vet about sunscreens that are good for your dog’s skin. Apply sunscreen before taking your dog outdoors.

Our apartments in Irving have a limit of two indoor pets per apartment. Cats and dogs up to 100 pounds are permitted. However, there are breed restrictions. Pet rent and fees apply. Review our pet policy for more details.
